Gift a crypto
Our goal is to let users send and receive crypto tokens as gifts within the Mudrex app. This not only helps us attract more users but also empowers our marketing team to run exciting seasonal campaigns. Mudrex is all about welcoming retail investors and kickstarting their crypto journey
PROJECT DURATION:1.5 WEEKS
Goals
Focus on Feature
THE APPROACH
Sending or getting a gift isn't just a transaction – it's all about the feels. Think surprises, personal touches, excitement, and curiosity. So, I've worked on a frameworj that covers everything from how folks first learn about Mudrex to how they start valuing and sharing the gifting experience.
This strategy is all about bringing in more users and creating unforgettable moments. We're spicing things up with personalized cards, sending real gift cards to recapture that joy of opening a gift box, and adding relatable themes to ditch the boring greeting cards available on any other products
Empathising with users before anything
By mapping out the entire user journey using the framework I crafted, I've covered everything from users discovering our product to sending and receiving gifts on the Mudrex app, even incorporating that tangible gifting element.
Following a small-scale user research involving 3 to 4 individuals, I've gathered precious insights regarding user sentiments at each stage. These insights have been a goldmine for brainstorming multiple concepts to intensify the emotions we aim to evoke and truly elevate the user experience. After all, that's the essence of design, isn't it?
Designing to cater needs and beyond
This involves breaking down the framework I created into actionable steps and ideas that will fulfill the emotional and practical needs we discussed
01
Feature Discovery
- Has to be intriguing for user to check it out
- Since it’s not very often used feature, entry points should be relevant but limited
- Outside app, it has to make more noise like websites, campaigns, people sharing experience
- For new receivers, the primary action would be claiming their gift after they install the app, so that has to be figured
- Users tend to bring in their familiarity, so it has to meet industry standard entry points like profile page similar to amazon, nykaa, myntra
- Users being able to see the level of personalisation, would get them curious to try it out
- Positioning it as a good deed to dear ones
Can also try out by sending something like a card to user’s address
02
Gifting Flow
- Set expectations right from the start
- Step by step guiding process and having enough suggestions for user to quickly go ahead in the journey
- Capability to make it more personalised for the receiver
- Sense of fun and joy while interacting
- If no funds user, nudging user to complete the action using notifications/homepage widget
- Ability to save user created templates for future use
- Convey the benefits of the gift (taxation)
- Personalised and celebratory preview card
- Needs to stand out from other experiences
03
- Gratifying the sender for the good deed
- Updating the user about status of the gift card
- Receiver experience has to be delightful that we want receiver to turn as propagators of feature
- Make the receiver special about having dear ones who put an effort in sending gift
- Communicate tax benefits
Post Gifting Experience
Wireframing
The fun part of wireframing is turning wild ideas into real concepts that bring my vision to life. So, I created a ton of wireframes to quickly test with few folks and show stakeholders the feature's potential, assess the direction, and see if it's technically doable. This process ultimately led us to find the winning iteration!
Entry Points to introduce Gift a Crypto
This was the first iteration which basically helped me to build a flow that has all information covered
Earlier iteration led to this version incorporates new concepts like live previews and more meaningful templates. It introduces the concept of dynamic templates, allowing users to see their inputs reflected instantly on the card, eliminating the need to wait until the end for a preview
This iteration breaks away from the linear approach, giving users the freedom to control everything at once. Users can now preview their selection while choosing between tokens and entering the price
From Tiny Pieces to the Big Picture
Templates with heart and meaning, not just generic designs
Intent is to break free from the usual, run-of-the-mill gift card templates. Instead, my goal was to offer a wide range of unique designs, each with its own special meaning, so every user can find a template that truly resonates with them. This way, every user can find a template that deeply resonates with them. What's more, the entire experience is crafted to engage users by encouraging them to actively participate in the creation of their gift card
Hands on happiness
Design your card, your way
I aimed to let users have fun with the templates and immediately see the changes in the preview, without the hassle of waiting until the end or starting over. While our tech had some limitations, we found a clever workaround. Users can now get a quick preview as they choose the amount, token, or add a message, and it updates in real-time
Making the best out of everything
Instead of just displaying tokens as plain options, I added a fun flip interaction to mimic the feeling of a physical card. This flip reveals why the sender is giving the gift card, and it changes in real-time as users select different tokens. The icing on the cake? Adding personal touches like the date and name makes the card resemble a cherished polaroid picture that we'd want to keep for a lifetime
Adapting to every intent
The screen is smartly designed to adapt to what the user needs. If you want a quick look at the gift card you're creating without losing sight of everything else on your mobile screen, the layout switches seamlessly from a large preview card to a compact one. It's all about convenience and keeping it easy for you to interact and input right on the same screen
Adding the element of surprise
In the attempt for a lifelike gifting experience, I leveraged Figma and After Effects to craft enchanting animations, such as 'gift wrapping' the gift card. These animations emulate real-time experiences, bringing a touch of magic to the user's journey. As I always say, it's the emotion you want to invoke that truly elevate the user's delight.
I'll be adding more interesting stuff I've worked on here, but for now, I'm wrapping up this section here because it's time to get it done. If you want to know more, you've got my email – don't hesitate to reach out!
Visual Design
Here, you'll find a few screens that offer a glimpse of the execution of the visual design in this section
ABOVE AND BEYOND
Making it real with Physical
Gift card
Following discussions with stakeholders, we decided to introduce the option of sending a physical gift card, along with a unique redemption code. This venture also allowed me to explore various design directions for the physical card and its packaging. I considered different approaches, from creating an ultra-premium look to something artsy or crypto-centric, ensuring a wide array of choices
My Learnings from this project
Looking beyond features
Even though the product team provided a detailed PRD, infusing the emotional element through design played a vital role in delivering this project
Never too late to learn
I've usually depended on a motion designer to create Lottie animations, but due to time constraints, I had to take matters into my own hands and learn to do it myself. It's all about being prepared for the unexpected
Factors for physical card design
From expenses to choosing where to add embossing for that luxurious touch, and even getting creative by adding metallic edge coloring to give it a metal-like feel despite using plastic – it's been a valuable learning experience
